... a little late!

What a week! ...and it's only Tuesday!

I was just a little (!) preoccupied with getting things ready for work on Sunday.  It was only today that I realized I neglected my blog for this week!  YIKES!  I had planned to post something for Monday but to my horror, I realized I had not!  Better late than never I suppose!

This week's card is one that I made for my husband to celebrate our "Canadian" anniversary.  As in my previous posts, my husband and I celebrate two anniversaries.  To make a really, really LOOOOONNNNGGG story short...

My husband and I met online 10 years ago (1999) and met a year and a half later in the flesh... He proposed to me in March 2003 and we had begun the process of immigration.  The Canadian immigration laws had just changed in the time that we were engaged and we were placed into a.... let's just say into the wrong category, by the lawyer I had hired.  It was our plan to try and get him here and THEN have our wedding ceremony.  In October 2003, we booked our reception, church and date (July 17, 2005) for our (at that time) impending marriage.

Eight months came and went and we had heard nothing from Immigration Canada.  It was suggested by a friend of mine that I should visit my local MPP to see what they could find out.  Within two weeks, my hubs and I had the answer!  We were told by the Canadian government that we were not considered for the particular category and that they would extend our application 6 months, in which time we could marry.   If that didn't suit our plans, we would have to restart the immigration process all over again once we legally tied the knot!  Start over again?!?!?!?

Needless to say, we didn't waste anytime! I had already booked my UK flight for my summer trip to see my finance, so the decision to have a civil ceremony in England was a decision already made for us.  We quickly scrambled to call the local registry office near where my husband lived in England and booked our civil service for the end of July! 

Thankfully, he officially became a permanent resident October of that year! 

...and that's why we celebrate TWO days! S:o)

You really got to love the red tape of bureaucracy!
