Kraftin' Kimmie Challenge #90: Distressing

Kraftin' Kimmie Challenge #90:  Distressing

This week KKS have offered a card challenge I could not refuse...
DISTRESSING!
Distressing is one of my favourite techniques and really what's more satisfying than tearing into some paper?! S:o)

I recently purchased some images from KKS's stamp release last month, one of which is "Melaine".  She has found a home here in my little stamp collection and I could not resist the urge to use her... just because I felt like it!  It's not often I have the chance to create just of the fact of creating it!

I coloured her with copics and used some glossy accents to embellish her purse.  I cut the image out with my small circle nesties (for those who don't know what "nesties" are.... I am refering to Spellbinders Nestabilities die-cuts). For the image background, I coloured the sky with Prisma pencil crayons in "Beige" and the grass with "Yellow-Green" and blended the colours with a paper stump and some Gamsol (also known as odorless solvent).  I distressed the edge of the image with my Tim Holtz' Distress tool and embellished with white opal stickles.

The "Happy Birthday" sentiment is from Hero Arts 4x6 Wonderful Birthday stamp set which I used Copic W1 (Warm Gray No.1) to outline the letters and edges with liquid pearls .  As for the "Greetings from Canada" sentiment (a stamp I found in one of Michaels' craftstore $1.50 bins), I stamped the image with ColourBox black pigment and embossed it with clear embossing powder. I  outlined "Canada" with R24 copic marker to make it pop.  The sentiment was cut out with one of my small square nesties and I distressed the edges, adding some more White Opal Liquid Pearls to embellish.  To finish, I punched out a leaf out of red cardstock, using my Paper Shapers Maple Leaf punch and made it bling with some Xmas Red Stickles and adhered it to the top of the sentiment.

I cut the white cardstock base to 5"x 7" and cut the red card stock and patterned paper accordingly.  I distressed the "Canada" patterned paper and embellished the edges with Liquid Pearls.
To finish off this card, I used some Market Street twine and wrapped it around the card front before adhering any of the images to the card and placed some Prima "Black Diamond" rhinestones in behind the image and sentiments.  I also used a Prima rose and two Recollection roses for the front of the card.

I thought this card turned pretty good... :)

As for the weekend, it's been forecasted that it's probably going to rain most of the weekend here in Southern Ontario, so I'm planning to stick around the house and catch up on some household chores that I've been nelgecting.  You can also bet I will be in my craft space too!

Don't forget to check out this week's Birthday Sundaes challenge on Sunday!

Have a wonderful weekend!
